Studio Photography Photography locations vary as do people. When a client presents their needs, locations are discussed to fit the situation and budget.
For Amateur Models, a hotel room provides all the required functions of a studio. Ease of travel, changing room, electricial outlets for lighting, and there is always a "Blank" wall as a backdrop. For ease of budget, Hotel Lobbies have sitting areas for warmer portraits. When a model requires a larger space for shooting, most hotels have small banquet rooms for "business meetings" to rent at a very low cost. Photographic Equipment
The photography medium of the day is "Digital Photography". Using Film was and still is the preferred medium of photographers, but rising costs for film development, poor lab staff handling our work, and digital improvements have helped photographers make the change.
In the past, clients were not permitted access to the photographer's negatives for fear of client breaking Copyright laws by going to photo labs and getting their own copies. But strict new laws protect photographers from that. No photo lab will "touch" a negative if it even looks like it was done in a studio. But now, a client can receive a copy cd of their shots which contain "watermarks", coding within the file, and copyrights attached to each file. If Copyrights are violated, the photographer can see the origin of the copied photo and persue the person that gave the work out as well as the person using it without permission. Copyrights are the only laws which are enforced EVERYWHERE. If used properly, they are the only protection a client and photographer have in the world of today. Copyright and Model Releases draw the line of proper conduct, normally the person "paying" is the holder. |
Location Photography
Location Photography is what is known as when doing outdoor or a specific place to use as a backdrop. Parks, beaches, small bridges, warehouses, woods, open fields, etc., public locations. For Amateur and Professional Models, these locations help to provide a full portfolio of shots. The hard part is the weather, lighting, seasons, and limit to time of daylight. The model also has limited changing places.
When a model requires any outdoor work, he or she must be considerate of the limations on the photographer to get the shots in changing lighting. Reshoots are sometimes needed and should be understood ahead. The Client
Kunze Photography is considerate of the client's needs and means.
I like to work with Amateurs, Semi-professionals, Service Providers, and specific Professional models. The client is the person which is paying for the work to be done and is entitled to getting the product that they are looking to receive. In order to make photography cost effective for new Models, arrangements can sometimes be made for services in a manor known as TFCD. A Photographer and Model would make an agreement for doing the work in exchange for equal share of the "Rights" to the product created. The TFCD deal is to aid the startup process for one or both parties, but does not allow transfer of those "rights" to another (like in the area of selling the photos or publishing without both parties being informed prior). In the past, the Photographer withheld the total Copyrights on the material created, but present time and complications have made it possible for variations. New Copyright Laws & Loopholes
In the past, a simple note stating that the photos and stories as being Copyright Protected was honored, that is no longer strong enough.
All my work is protected by current laws as stated as being "Copyright Kunzephotography 2019: Attribution - NonCommercial - NoDerivs". Look up the meaning of those phrases. |
